Antenatal care, also known as prenatal care, is an essential part of a woman’s pregnancy in order to ensure a healthy developing fetus, as well as wellness for the mother after pregnancy. In 2016, 85% of women globally received antenatal care at least once throughout pregnancy, only 20-49% of women in India received antenatal care (UNICEF, 2017). In a 2013 study, perinatal mortality was 28.93 per 1000 live births in Nanjangud talluk of Mysore district, India. Although the rate of perinatal mortality was below that of the national average, 62% of the women in Nanjangud talluk suffered from anemia (Siddalingappa et al., 2013).  From 2008 -2011, 62% of live births registered in Mysore District were homebirths (Kojima et al., 2017). The objective of my study is to analyze the different demographic factors that influence choice of birthplace in rural communities in the state of Karnataka, India.
