Had the honor of Interviewing Dr. Purnima Madhivanan (M.D., M.P.H., Ph.D.) Founder of the Public Health Research Institute of India, Associate Professor of Epidemiology at the Robert Stempel College of Public Health at Florida International University, and Research Mentor. Dr. Madhivanan, along with PHRII staff hosted myself along with 15 other fellow students from Florida International University in their non-profit institution, where we were exposed to various research projects being carried out by PHRII. Dr. Madhivanan offered insight on the two most common opportunistic infections seen among HIV positive patient worldwide. Furthermore, Dr. Madhivanan discusses possible factors that might influence the detection of the infectious diseases, specifically in Southern Rural India. She revealed some preventative measure that HIV positive patients in rural India can take in order to reduce the chances of acquiring these opportunistic diseases.
